In the House and in the Plantation  

Birds & Butterflies: Grab a binocular and look out for all the tropical beauties in the area. Sri Lanka is a birdwatchers’ delight and a butterfly lover’s paradise! 

Kite & Carom: Create your own kite and let it fly! Or learn the boardgame ‘Carom’. Two very typical Sri Lankan hobbies.  

Coconut & Cooking Class: Learn how to prepare fresh coconut milk, one of the basic elements in every curry. We show you how to prepare delicious curries with ingredients that you also find in your supermarket at home.  

Tea Picking & Tea Tasting: Find out, what picking just “two leaves and a bud” really means the guided tea plantation walk with our manager Prasaad. We offer a wide range of Ceylon teas. Try them whenever you like and create your private tea tasting on the verandah, at the pool or on your balcony. 

Novels & Knowledge: Grab a book out of our “library cupboard” in the upstair lounge. Read about Yoga, Ayurveda or Sri Lanka. If you did finish the novel that you brought with you, you also can "swop it" with one of ours. 

In the Niyagama Area: Abundant Nature & Village Life  

Guided Niyagama Bike Tour: One of our team will take you on an wonderful bike ride. Paddy fields, rural villages and beautiful tropical nature are waiting for you.

"Bike to Beach: From Niyagama House to Unawatuna or Wijaya Beach! Ride downhill on small streets with the option to stop and visit the Buddhist Yatagall Temple. After arriving at the beach osur van driver picks up your bikes and the guide, while you enjoy the ocean and a lunch or dinner. Afterwards our tuktuk driver will pick you up. 

Your Own Walking or Jogging Tour: Enjoy the unspoilt nature around Niyagama House. There is a five kilometer round way which you easily can do by yourself, exploring more tea plantations, farms and small villages with smiling kids :-).

Half Day Trips: Culture and History, Flora and Fauna 

Galle Fort: History, shopping and sightseeing.

Kottawa Rainforest Reservation: First class birdwatching.

Ambalangoda Mask Museum: Discover the richness of Sri Lankan mask tradition.

Unawatuna Beach: Swimming, Snorkeling and Sunset.

Turtle Sanctuary in Habaraduwa: Marvel at five of the seven worldwide existing turtles.

Yatagalla Temple: Visit this atmospheric and 1.200 years old place with huge stone boulders and colorful temple paintings.

Rhummasala Peace Pagoda: Breathtaking views to Galle Fort and often a drumming and chanting session for sunset in the Japanese temple.

Visit of a moonstone mine: From the digging in the mud to the precious stone.

Hindu Temple in Galle: Observe the ceremony every friday afternoon.

Handunugoda Tea Factory: Try their unique "white tea" and take a look at the different steps of tea proceccing.

Brief Garden & Lunu Ganga in Bentota: Tropical gardens with an interesting story.

Udawalawe National Park: One of the best places to see wild elephants in Sri Lanka.

All the following great places are close to us and can be reached within a long day trip. The most relaxed way to visit them is with one overnight stay.

Sinharaja Rainforest: A UNESCO world heritage site. Take a marvellous, guided trecking tour that leads to a waterfall where you can swim in the lake below.

Ella: Climb on the 'Small Adam's Peak' and enjoy the nature in the southern hill-country of Sri Lanka.

Kataragama: One of the most holy places for Buddhist and Hindus. An absolute highlight: the July and August full moon ceremony.

Yala National Park: Home to the greatest variety of Sri Lanka's wildlife.
